Leadership Team

Chris Zimmerman, Principal

Welcome to Cimarron Middle School in Parker, Colorado. It is an honor to be the principal in such an incredible community. I graduated from the University of Northern Colorado, with a Bachelor's degree in Statistics. I pursued my passion and started my career in education at Valley High School and Liberty Middle School before moving to Douglas County School District. With these experiences, I am honored to be a part of Cimarron Middle School’s staff. I have been fortunate to be a part of the Legend feeder for the past ten years as a math teacher, assistant principal, and principal. My wife is a teacher in DCSD and we are so excited for our two kids to begin their education in the Legend feeder. I have always had a passion for being around students and supporting others in their pursuit to achieve their goals. I believe in Cimarron’s mission in building relationships that help foster a positive learning environment. I look forward to partnering with you to build a great foundational middle school experience.

Douglas Kapeller, Assistant Principal 8th Grade

Cimarron Middle school has been my home for the past four years. I am currently in my 31st year of working with students in the educational setting. My teaching experience includes Technology Education, Convergent Journalism, and a district level technology director position. The University of Nebraska is where I received my undergraduate degree. I also received a MS in technology from Pittsburg State University and a MS in Administration from Baker University. I am a passionate educator who facilitates students and teachers to find their passion, through risk taking, curiosity, and exploration.

Casey Whitehurst, Assistant Principal 6th Grade

It is an honor and privilege to be a part of Cimarron Middle School. I am excited to be working with students in the 8th grade this school year! I graduated from the University of Wisconsin - Eau Claire with a Bachelor’s degree in Broadfield Social Studies. I have a Master’s degree in both Education (Quality Schools) and Administration from the University of Graceland and Argosy University respectfully. This is my third year at Cimarron and will be my sixteenth year as an educator. Prior to becoming an administrator at Cimarron, I taught a wide array of Social Studies courses from AP Psychology to Geography, and coached multiple sports at both the middle and high school levels. My wife teaches at Legend High School and my own children attend both Frontier Valley Elementary and Cimarron Middle School. My goal as an educator has always been to dream, to create, to battle for students, to spread positivity, and to inspire others to know that one person can make a difference.

Brett Michel, Assistant Principal 7th Grade

This will be my second year at Cimarron Middle School, and I am so excited to serve this amazing community!  I am now entering my 12th year of education, having worked both as a math teacher and administrator.  After earning my bachelor’s and master’s degrees from the University of Oregon, I went on to teach and coach in California, Oregon, and most recently Colorado.  After another year in a master’s program at UC Denver, I moved into the role of dean and athletic director at Sierra Middle School for two years before joining the fantastic staff at Cimarron.  It has been an absolute privilege to work in education for all this time, I love this field and can’t see myself doing anything else.  Having the opportunity to improve the lives of the next generation is a blessing and a responsibility that I consider to be of the highest importance as both an educator and a father.  Throughout this year I intend to provide unconditional support and guidance for our staff while putting student needs above all else.
