Expectations for Students
At Cimarron, we expect students to Be RED which stands for Respectful, Excellence, and Determined. We teach, practice, and reinforce the expectations that align with those three areas. The purpose of our expectations is to be clear in what it takes to make Cimarron a safe and supportive school where each student has access to learning and feels like they belong. The adults in the building are responsible for the well-being of students and will work extremely hard to make sure each student is provided for educationally and emotionally AND able to Be RED. We pair high expectations with a supportive environment so students thrive and are prepared for their next endeavor. |

Students may use them at the teacher's discretion in the classrooms. Students can access their cell phone during lunch in the area by the bike racks after asking an adult for permission to do so. If a student needs to contact a parent or guardian, they can also do so in the main office with their cell phone or the school’s phone. Policy and Consequences Here Earbuds and headphones are to be off and out of sight during the school day. Students may use them at the teacher's discretion in the classrooms. |
|
Behavior / Social Emotions Supports |
Everyone makes mistakes and at Cimarron we view these opportunities as a learning experience. If and when expectations are not met, we will work with students and families to support all those individuals that may have been impacted by the situation. Our Assistant Principals, Dean, and Counselors will work with students and staff to resolve situations that are elevated beyond the classroom. Our approach is restorative. We not only address what happened and the consequences of those actions, but will also work with students to understand what they were thinking and/or feeling, the impact of those actions, and develop a plan on how to move forward productively.

Middle School is an exciting and challenging time. CiMS staff are committed to meeting the needs of students and supporting their overall well-being. Grades & Infinite Campus Parents may access student grades and attendance information via the Parent Portal system with Infinite Campus. Students receive quarter grades and teachers update grades periodically over the course of a quarter. Grades are divided into two areas - content knowledge and work habits.
Assignments and assessments are graded using a four point system. Questions about grades should be directed to the classroom teacher. |
Team Assignments & Elective Classes |
Student schedules will be released in early August in Infinite Campus. When schedules are released, we are not able to make changes to team assignments because of the complexity of the schedule. Students will come on the first day and receive a colored copy of their schedule. Elective assignments are based on the requests the student makes during the course selection process. We work hard to get students into elective classes they have identified as wanting to take. There are times, due to how the schedule is set up, a student will be placed in an elective class they did not identify. We are not able to make changes to elective classes because of the complexity of the schedule. |
|
Our counselors, school psychologist, and school social worker are trained to support students with: academics, personal and social issues, behavior regulation, executive functioning, mental health emergencies, connecting to outside resources for mental health support, conversations with teachers, and small group interventions.

How to Stay “in the know”...
|
School Accountability Committee (SAC) - link to district info on SAC The School Accountability Committee, or SAC, was created by state statute in the 1970s to inform, encourage, and provide opportunities for everyone in the community to be involved in the planning and evaluation of the school's instructional program and quality improvement processes. The improvement process is formalized in the development and implementation of the Unified Improvement Plan (UIP) in which action items to improve the school's performance, as well as measurements to assess the success of these action items, are outlined. As part of the improvement process, the SAC may review various components of the school program and advise the principal as to how well these meet the school and community needs, conduct surveys/assessments for the formulation of school improvement goals, develop areas of study based upon school baseline data and school profile information, and make recommendations and/or give advice to the principal. Each SAC is comprised of 7 voting members:
If you are interested in getting involved in the Cimarron SAC, please contact Chris Zimmerman, principal. |
